CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — Any chance that guard Justin Anderson would return for No. 2 Virginia against No. 16 Louisville on Saturday were upended by his appendix.
The school says the Cavaliers' second-leading scorer with a 13.4 average had an appendectomy on Thursday and will miss the game.
Anderson has missed seven games since breaking the pinky finger on his left (shooting) hand in Virginia's victory against the Cardinals on Feb. 7. Coach Tony Bennett said earlier this week that Anderson could be ready to return for the last regular season game, but that won't happen now.
The school says his status for next week's Atlantic Coast Conference tournament is to be determined.
The junior leads the ACC in 3-point shooting, having converted 48.4 percent of his attempts (46-95).
