SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — A Royal Caribbean cruise ship has arrived back in Puerto Rico after experiencing engine trouble at sea.

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. spokeswoman Cynthia Martinez says the Adventure of the Seas was on a seven-day trip when the crew noticed an oil leak during a stop in St. Kitts. Martinez says the crew erected booms to prevent additional oil from leaking and took one of the ship's three engines off line for the remainder of the 7-day journey.

That prompted the ship to run more slowly than usual and forced the line to cancel a stop in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The ship with more than 3,400 passengers returned Sunday to San Juan. The ship was scheduled for dry-dock repairs this month, and its upcoming schedule won't be affected.
