Marc Giauque reportingIt's getting more crowded on TRAX trains and buses. The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) is reporting a big increase in ridership, and you can probably guess why.
It's kind of a no-brainer isn't it? It's all about gas prices. UTA spokeswoman Carrie Bohnsack-Ware says much of UTA's overall 20-percent increase between May of this year and May of last year involves TRAX.
"[TRAX] showed about a 7-percent increase over April of last year; and to May, from this year to last year, we've seen about a 36-percent increase," Bohnsack-Ware said.
She says FrontRunner ridership is also doing better than expected: About 5,900 people ride those rails on a daily basis, numbers the UTA wasn't expecting until fall.
