LOGAN — Firefighters put out a house fire Saturday evening and saved five pet reptiles in the process.
At about 5:30 p.m., emergency dispatchers began receiving reports of smoke coming from the roof of a house near 100 East and 300 South, Logan City Fire Marshal Craig Humphreys said.
The couple who lived in the home were able to get out safely with their baby, Humphreys said. Several firefighters also went inside to rescue the family's pet reptiles, he said.
"About five expensive reptiles were in the home," Humphreys said. "We were able to get those pets evacuated safely."
The fire itself proved difficult to fight because it was contained behind the knee walls of the attic, the fire marshal said.
Crews eventually got the upper hand and put the fire out. Investigators are now looking into what caused it, Humphreys said.
