MAGNA — A Magna man is in police custody after a standoff with police.
Lt. Justin Hoyal of the Unified Police Department said the man was arguing with family members at a home near 8500 West and 3500 South Monday night. At some point, he got out a shotgun, Hoyal said.
“He came back out and a struggle ensued over the shotgun. Then the suspect fired off a round in the house, causing damage to a wall,” he said.
Hoyal said people were inside the home when the gun went off, but none of them were hurt.
When officers arrived, the man refused to leave the home and barricaded himself inside. Police finally persuaded him to surrender without incident.
They arrested 62-year-old Kevin Holsten. Investigators did not say what prompted the arguement.
