WEST POINT — Davis County sheriff's investigators are warning residents to be wary of deals that sound too good to be true following a new twist on an old scam.

A West Point woman recently found an ad on KSL.com from an alleged company that promised to pay a person $400 per month if that person paid for a vehicle wrap to advertise their company.

The woman called the company and gave them her personal information as well as vehicle information, said Davis County Sheriff's Sgt. Susan Poulsen. The company sent her a check for $2,480. The check included her alleged share as well as money to pay for the car wrap, which she was supposed to send to a third party, Poulsen said.

She deposited the check, which was no good. Her bank account was soon overdrawn and she could no longer reach the alleged company, Poulsen said.

"When someone sends a check and then requests payback, be very wary," Poulsen said.

There were no leads on possible suspects as of Monday. The case is under investigation.
