WASHINGTON, Washington County — A medical examiner is working to identify a body found on the banks of the Virgin River on Friday.

The body, which police believe had washed downstream from another location, was discovered by a passerby about 4 p.m. Friday, said Washington police spokesman Ed Kantor.

Police located the body near 2200 East and Washington Dam Road, Kantor said. Because of the condition of the body, officers were unable to determine identification, gender or cause of death.

The Utah Medical Examiner's Office is working to identify the remains, and an investigation is ongoing, Kantor said.
