SPANISH FORK — Beginning in spring, the Utah Department of Transportation is scheduled to widen six miles of I-15 between the Spanish Fork River and the south Payson interchange.

The purpose of the project is to increase capacity and improve traffic flow in the area as well as help facilitate travel and the movement of goods across the state.

In addition to widening the freeway, UDOT plans to replace the existing pavement with a new layer of asphalt as well as widen and improve the four bridges along this section of I-15.

As part of the project, UDOT conducted a sound study to identify areas that might benefit from the construction of a sound wall. Property owners and residents who were identified as being impacted by increased noise from construction were given the opportunity to vote on whether a wall should be built.

More than 75 percent of residents were in favor of the sound wall, which will be constructed in the spring and summer. It will be built on UDOT property along northbound I-15 for approximately 1 ½ miles. The height of the wall will range from 10-16 feet and will be approximately 1 to 14 feet beyond the current chain-link fence.
