SALT LAKE CITY — Charges have been filed against a St. George man accused of using a stun gun on another man and forcing him to withdraw money at multiple banks.
Jacob Dane Hancock, 26, of St. George, was charged Tuesday in 5th District Court with aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping, both first-degree felonies; burglary and theft, both second-degree felonies; and theft and aggravated assault, third-degree felonies.
On Dec. 23, Hancock and two other men broke into a hotel room at gunpoint and demanded money from a man that Hancock believed was owed to him, according to charging documents.
Hancock was armed with a stun gun and used it on the victim “throughout the incident,” the charges state.
The suspects then drove the victim to three banks in St. George and forced him to try and cash a check at one location and withdraw money from an ATM at others, according to the charges. Hancock allegedly continued using the stun on the man while driving.
After returning to the hotel room, the men took tools, clothing, electronics and a handgun from the victim and transferred an additional $100 from the man’s PayPal account, according to the charges.
Hancock was later arrested in another state and admitted to taking some of the items, “but claimed it was collateral for the money owed,” the charges state.
Court documents also state a second man was arrested, but do not indicate if he was formally charged.
