The Boilermakers later opened the second half on an 11-3 run and later scored 16 straight to go ahead 67-36.

Jay Huff had a team-high 11 points for the Cavaliers, who had won 13 straight before losing to the team they beat in the NCAA regional finals last season.

The Boilermakers are the first team to score more than 55 points against the defending NCAA champs this season.

AP sources: Wheeler, Phillies agree to $118M, 5-year deal

UNDATED (AP) — Zack Wheeler is staying in the National League East, but he’ll be about 90 minutes southwest of his previous ballclub.

Two people familiar with the deal tell The Associated Press that the free-agent right-hander has accepted a five-year, $118 contract with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Wheeler spent his first seven seasons with the Mets and was 11-8 with a 3.96 ERA for New York this year. He’s pitched in five major league seasons but has never won more than 12 games or pitched 200 innings, missing the 2015 and ’16 seasons following Tommy John surgery.

Wheeler is 44-38 with a 3.77 ERA in 126 starts, fanning 726 over 749 1/3 innings.

In other MLB news:

— Free-agent lefty Cole Hamels has agreed to a one-year, $18 million contract with the Braves. The 35-year-old was 7-7 with a 3.81 ERA for the Cubs last season. He threw 141 2/3 this season, his fewest since his rookie season in 2006. Hamels is 163-121 with a 3.42 earned run average in his 14-season career.

— The Angels have acquired right-hander Dylan Bundy from the Orioles for four minor league pitchers. The 27-year-old Bundy was 7-14 with a 4.79 ERA last season, striking out 162 over 161 2/3 innings.

— Reliever Carl Edwards Jr. and the Seattle Mariners finalized a one-year contract with a $950,000 guaranteed salary. The 28-year-old right-hander had an 8.47 ERA in 22 appearances for the Chicago Cubs and San Diego this year.

— A hedge fund manager whose company paid $1.8 billion in U.S. criminal and civil settlements is in negotiations to increase his stake in the Mets. The ballclub left open the possibility Steven Cohen eventually could become controlling owner in a deal with Sterling Partners. Fred Wilpon would be allowed to remain as controlling owner and chief executive officer for five years, while Jeff Wilpon would remain as CEO.

— The Angels have reached a proposed agreement to stay in Anaheim through 2050 as part of a deal in which they will pay $325 million to buy Angel Stadium and its surrounding parking lots from the city. The deal allows the team to decide whether to use the property to build a new stadium, which would be funded by the Angels.

— St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman says the city will not allow the Rays to pursue a plan to split home games between new stadiums that would be built in Florida and Montreal. Kriseman informed the City Council of the decision, saying he and the team agree the best path forward is to abide by an existing contract that requires the Rays to play at Tropicana Field. The Rays dispute that's the best path, reiterating they still think the Sister City concept is a viable option.

— Union head Tony Clark says players who test positive for opioids would enter treatment and not be suspended under the change to Major League Baseball's drug agreement being negotiated by management and the players' association. Talks to add testing for opioids began following the death this year of Los Angeles Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs. Players have been tested for performance-enhancing substances since 2004 and for banned stimulants since 2006.

— The Marlins will join Major League Baseball's trend toward artificial turf by installing the surface at Marlins Park for 2020, and they'll move in the fences for the second time in four years. CEO Derek Jeter said an artificial surface solves the challenge the Marlins have had growing grass in the retractable-roof stadium since it opened in 2012.
