SALT LAKE CITY — Heavyweight Tyler East and welterweight Ben Smith became champions at the World Championship Full Contact competition on Saturday.
After East was given his trophy, he asked Cameron, a child from the Make a Wish Foundation, to join him in the cage and give him the award.
“Cameron is the one fighting the fight of his life, and he deserves this more then I do,” East said as he raised the boy's hand to signify a champion.
After sustaining an injury, East was only able to compete in one of two scheduled matches.
SteelFist V is scheduled for Friday at the Complex in Salt Lake City. The 155-pound tournament will be a one-fighter-takes-all competition with eight competitors, including local favorites Sean Powers, Scottie Casey, Steve Walser and Jared Garn. There will be six other matches, including a competition between Cole Rose and Kyle Herrera, who is the event organizer.
