AUGUSTA, Ga. — Former BYU golfer Daniel Summerhays has been enjoying his first trip to the Masters, despite stormy weather and a few unpredictable shots.

His stay got a little longer Friday afternoon.

Summerhays carded a 3-over-par 75 to finish with a two-day total of 5-over 149, making it inside the cut line at the first PGA Tour major of the year Friday at Augusta National Golf Club.

After shooting 2-over in Thursday’s opening round, the two-time Utah State Amateur champion took bogeys on the first and seventh holes for a 38 front-nine score. Summerhays dropped his third bogey of the round on No. 12 before getting a stroke back on No. 13, and finishing with a bogey on No. 15.

Summerhays was nine shots off the lead when he entered the clubhouse Friday. Leaders Charley Hoffman, Thomas Pieters, Rickie Fowler and Sergio Garcia led the Farmington native by nine strokes.

Draper resident Mike Weir missed Friday’s cut with bogeys on the first, fourth, sixth and ninth holes for a front-nine total of 4-over 40. The 46-year-old BYU alum from Canada totaled 10 bogeys with no birdies in his 18th Masters appearance, including the 2003 green-jacket title.
