NEW YORK (AP) — Ryan Seacrest will host NBC's late-night coverage during the 2016 Olympics.

The network said Wednesday that the "American Idol" host would take over the late-night role in Rio. He was a correspondent for NBC during the 2012 London Games.

Bob Costas handled both late-night and prime-time hosting duties during last year's Winter Olympics, made possible by the time difference in Sochi. Mary Carillo had hosted the late-night coverage the previous three Olympics.

Along with hosting "American Idol" on Fox, Seacrest is host and executive producer of ABC's "Dick Clark's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest" and has an agreement with NBCUniversal that includes serving as host and producer of the "E! Live from the Red Carpet" awards programs.
