FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — The New England Patriots have signed safety Patrick Chung.

Chung returns to the Patriots after spending last season with the Philadelphia Eagles. He had played his previous four seasons with New England after being drafted in the second round in 2009.

The 26-year-old Chung was released by the Eagles on March 11 after starting 10 of the 12 games in which he played and making 56 tackles with one fumble recovery and no interceptions.

In his four seasons with the Patriots, he had seven interceptions while playing in 50 games. He became a free agent after the 2012 season and signed with the Eagles on March 12, 2013.

Chung is the third free agent defensive back signed by the Patriots this offseason, following cornerbacks Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner.
