BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) — A Romanian soccer team couldn't play its weekend match at home because the mayor rented the stadium for his daughter's wedding.

Fourth-division club Gilortul Tg.Carbunesti played Saturday's match in a town about 40 kilometers (25 miles) away because of the nuptials.

Mayor Mihai Mazilu's secretary, Liana Chirita, tells The Associated Press they put up a large tent on the field in Targu Carbunesti for the wedding because there was nowhere else in town big enough for 500 guests.

Chirita says the wedding was celebrated "in good taste" in the town of 8,600 nestling the Carpathian foothills.

Gilort board member Cristian Luntraru says the team told the federation it would play elsewhere three weeks ago and didn't break any regulations. Gilort beat AS Stejari 7-1.

Mazilu has been mayor since 2008.
