ARLINGTON, Texas — Nathan Eovaldi finally hit a bump in his strong 2023 postseason run for the Texas Rangers. His record is still perfect thanks to a tying two-run homer from Corey Seager in the ninth inning of the World Series opener against Arizona. Eovaldi started strong but couldn't keep it going. After striking out the side in a shutdown second inning, the right-hander gave up hits to three of the first four batters in the third. Corbin Carroll's two-run triple for the Diamondbacks wiped out a 2-0 Texas lead. Tommy Pham hit a tiebreaking homer on Eovaldi's second pitch in the fourth after the Rangers had pulled even at 3. But they rebounded to win 6-5 on Adolis García's game-ending homer in the 11th.
