MOURNING THE DEPARTED — The only thing that remains the same in professional sports is change.
Whether it’s an old face popping up in a new place, a pro standout proving himself in unexpected ways, or the (unfortunate) demise of one of the best haircuts in all of sport, change is a constant in the pro sports calendar.
With that in mind, here are some of the top changes from the past week in sports.
RIP Beckerman’s dreads
Real Salt Lake completed the full-time signing of Venezuelan winger Jefferson Savarino last week, keeping the formerly on-loan striker in Sandy beyond the 2017 season.
The same cannot be said of the club’s most iconic feature — Kyle Beckerman’s dreadlocks.
RSL’s team captain revealed during last week’s team exit interviews that he had snipped a little too much off the top of his head following Salt Lake’s end to the 2017 MLS season. The 34-year-old midfielder, who is out of contract with Real Salt Lake, is currently in negotiations for a new contract with the club past the 2017 season.
“My wife and I started snipping some on Monday after the game, and just kept going,” he told media.

Lasike signs pro rugby contract in Utah
Utah’s next professional sports franchise begins play in 2018, when the Utah Warriors will commence operations in the newly formed Major League Rugby.
While the roster and team personnel are still coming into focus for the club that will play in Salt Lake City, at least one player is known — and is plenty familiar with local sports fans on the Wasatch Front.
Former BYU fullback Paul Lasike has signed a contract with the Warriors, the club announced last week. The former BYU All-American rugby star played briefly in the NFL with the Chicago Bears and Arizona Cardinals, and now he’s taking to pro rugby in the United States.
“I’m really excited to get back to Utah and play for coach (Alf) Daniels at the Warriors,” said Lasike, a New Zealand native who won a high school national championship with Highland in 2008. “Growing up, it was always my dream to play rugby professionally, and I never would have guessed it could happen here in America.”
C.J. Miles has handles
NBA guards are getting better and better.
We’ve seen plenty of insane ball handling from guys like Steph Curry and Kyrie Irving.
Now Toronto’s C.J. Miles wants to be added to the list of the league’s best handles.
He made a pretty good case for inclusion during pregame warmups last week, too.
