OREM — A woman jogging late at night on a trail says she had to fight an attacker off twice to avoid getting sexually assaulted.
Close to midnight on June 29, the woman finished her workout at the Gold's Gym on 800 East in Orem. As she was jogging on a trail that runs along University Parkway, a man attacked her from behind.
According to Orem police Detective Jeff Bailey, the attacker held a kitchen knife to her throat and tried to pull the woman's clothes off.
She fought him off twice and eventually got away and ran to her apartment. At the time of the attack, he was wearing shorts with a t-shirt, and is described as a white man in his mid- to late-20s, 5 foot 10 inches, medium build and has crooked teeth. A sketch of the attacker has been released by Orem police.
Police say the attack is similar to an assault that happened several months ago along the Provo River Trail. In the Provo attack the suspect was wearing a hoody sweatshirt with the draw string pulled tight so the victim couldn't see the attacker's face.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Orem Department of Public Safety at 801-229-7070.
