LOGAN, Utah (AP) -- Researchers at Utah State University are looking for antiviral treatments for swine flu.
Scientists at the university's Antiviral Research Institute have received several samples of the virus and have started testing them against antiviral drug treatments.
USU professor and antivirus researcher Donald Smee says public concerns over the swine flu may have diminished recently, but he expects the virus will re-emerge again later this year.
In the absence of a flu vaccine for everyone, Smee says antiviral medication can play an important role to lessen the effects of the flu. He figures health researchers have about six months to prepare before the next wave of the virus hits.
