Becky Bruce reporting With several recent fatal avalanches, the Utah Avalanche Center and REI are working together to try to keep anyone else from dying.
Avalanche forecaster Craig Gordon's already got one know-before-you-go class under his belt. It's an hour course aimed at young people.
"Not one young adult that has seen this program has been killed in an avalanche, so our track record's great right now," Gordon said.
But with three avalanche fatalities in just the last few weeks, there's no time like the present to talk safety. The Utah Avalanche Center's teaching another know-before-you-go class at the REI in Sandy on Jan. 17.
"We want people out on the mountain enjoying it. We do have the best snow in the world, but we want folks doing it safely," Gordon said.
