UTAH COUNTY -- The most expensive road project the Utah Department of Transportation has undertaken is moving forward in Utah County.

To rebuild I-15 through Utah County from American Fork to Provo Center Street, or the core as they call it, is going to take more than $1.7 billion.

Originally the project was going to be even longer, but over time it has been scaled back through discussion with the Legislature to cut down the cost.

Project spokeswoman Heather Barnum said, "You will see active construction through the whole corridor to make it faster."

She says this week they started the first stage in the bidding process. They hope to start building around this time next year, and the construction should wrap up in 2014.
