(KSL News) It is National Telecommunications Week and emergency dispatchers want to help you help yourself the next time you call 911.
Their goal is to get help on the way within 30 seconds after they get your call. Brad Harris, a 911 dispatcher, said, "Any emergency calls we'll have dispatched right away, or we'll let someone know it's there so they can get people en route."
So remember to be patient. Just because the dispatcher doesn't put you on hold doesn't mean help is not on the way. The dispatcher is sending the information to the appropriate emergency agency while you are speaking.
And don't hang up if you get a recording. You'll lose your place in line.
