DRAPER -- The first day of summer is here and those who rely on the sun for their business are hoping the cold spring makes way for a hot summer.
Laughing kids enjoying a water slide is exactly the sound Shane Huish wants to hear. He's one of the owners of the Cowabunga Bay water park in Draper.
"We struggled the last weeks in May, but now the sun's out," says Huish. "Now that we've got the weather cooperating with us it's starting off really nice."
This is the second year for Cowabunga Bay, which also had to deal with a long-lasting cold spring last year. Huish says the water park season has been a bit shorter than he first anticipated.
"It runs about 80 days given the temperamental weather lately," Huish says. "It's a short season for us but at least it's a fun season."
Huish says he's already done a hot weather dance to hopefully bring the summer in with long stretches of hot temperatures.
His park, like others in Utah, heats its water so it can extend the season and keep people coming even if the weather cools off a bit.
"If it gets a little too chilly on the slides you run over to the Lazy River, warm up and go back and slide again," says Huish.
