SALT LAKE COUNTY -- The split of the Jordan School District seems to have added to the rivalry between the east side of the Salt Lake Valley and the west side.
For decades there's been a cultural, political and social image debate between the east and west side of the valley. Some say a recent growth spurt on the western edge of the valley has lessened the divide.
But a Dan Jones & Associates poll for KSL TV and the Deseret News shows the divide still exists. The survey, conducted in March, found 82 percent of Salt Lake County residents believe the east side gets preferential treatment.
The split of the Jordan School District to create the new Canyons District didn't help. According to the poll, 75 percent of those surveyed say it was unfair to the Jordan students.
