SALT LAKE CITY — As police continued Friday to investigate the disappearance and presumed murder of a Cedar City woman, court documents reveal more information about the evidence that has been collected in the case.
Human remains, believed to be those of Kay Gosewisch, 73, were found wrapped in a tarp and buried under newly poured concrete in an old root cellar in an outbuilding in the backyard of her residence. Those remains were taken to the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office for identification and to determine a cause of death. As of Friday, the remains had not been positively identified.
The remains had three distinct injuries on the head that appeared to be caused by blunt force trauma, and that appear “to be consistent with these injuries taking place prior to, or at the time of death for this decedent,” according to a recently unsealed search warrant affidavit.
Joshua James Glover, 32, is suspected in his mother’s death. The investigation into Glover started when he attempted to withdraw money from his mother’s bank account at the time she was reported missing, court documents state.
Following further investigation, police went to Gosewisch’s residence on Aug. 31 with a search warrant. It was during that search that police announced human remains had been found on the property.
Glover was arrested a couple of days later and was charged with abuse or desecration of a dead body, a third-degree felony.
Cedar City police have been busy serving multiple search warrants on Glover’s vehicles and storage sheds since his arrest.
According to one of those warrants, Glover had four knives concealed on him at the time he was arrested. When detectives searched his vehicle, they reported finding three handguns, a rifle, seven firearm magazines, a collapsible baton, two hammers, a hatchet, a “drug debt record keeping book,” a license plate that “has been shot multiple times,” duct tape, jewelry, as well as drugs and drug paraphernalia.
At one of the storage units searched, police seized two more rifles plus parts of an AR-15, additional gun magazines, and a “mop with blood on it,” another warrant states.
As of Friday, no one had been arrested or charged with murder. A preliminary hearing for Glover on his current charges is scheduled for Oct. 23.
