SALT LAKE CITY — Troopers responded to multiple crashes on Saturday that resulted in fatalities between West Valley City and Tooele County.
The first happened about 12:50 p.m., when a motorcycle and an SUV collided on eastbound state Route 201 near 3000 West in West Valley City, according to Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Jared Heywood.
The motorcyclist, identified by troopers on Wednesday as Jay Reupena Pitone, 60, of Magna, was "thrown from the vehicle" after he hit the concrete retaining wall.

He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead, troopers said.
Later that evening, just after 7 p.m., troopers said a man traveling at a high rate of speed lost control of his vehicle exiting I-80, near Lake Point in Tooele County, and crashed and rolled into a retention pond.
The driver, identified Wednesday by the Utah Department of Public Safety as Jose Angel Chavez, 35, of Tooele, was airlifted to a hospital, where he later died.

Authorities said no one else was in the vehicle with Chavez, and the Tooele County search and rescue dive team assisted with recovering the submerged vehicle from the water.
