KEARNS — A man riding an electric scooter died after being hit by a car in Kearns Wednesday afternoon.

A vehicle was heading west near 4082 W. 5415 South when it made a quick turn into a barbershop. While turning, the vehicle cut off a person riding a scooter, causing the rider to veer to avoid being hit. In doing so, the rider was struck by another vehicle traveling west, according to Unified Police Sgt. Aymee Race.

The rider was rushed to the hospital but died from his injuries after arriving. He was identified as David Hilfiker, 52.
