CEDAR CITY — A man was injured and hospitalized due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound while officers were serving a search warrant at a Cedar City home on Monday, police said.

At about 5 p.m., officers, with assistance from FBI investigators, were executing a search warrant at a home in the 350 block of 400 North.

The warrant was connected to "a months-long investigation into transactions involving child sexual abuse material," police said in a post on their Facebook page Tuesday.

Once police made entry into the home and announced their presence, the man they were intending to serve — identified as Dylan Sanders — sustained a serious injury "from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head," authorities said.

Cedar City police said that no law enforcement officers discharged firearms during the incident, nor were any authorities injured.

Officers and medical personnel rendered aid to Sanders before he was transported to a hospital in Cedar City, then later airlifted to St. George Regional Hospital.

No other information regarding the investigation or Sanders' current condition was provided, but police said there are no ongoing threats to the public related to the incident.
