SANDY — A man who police say became upset at another driver after he was cut off while driving was arrested Tuesday in connection with a road rage investigation.

The 19-year-old man was arrested for investigation of aggravated assault and criminal mischief.

Police say a woman pulled in front of the man on Highland Drive, then the man then followed her to 9400 South and 1300 East. While she was stopped at a red light, the man got out of his car, called her a derogatory name, told her "you shouldn't drive so aggressively" and then pulled a butterfly knife out of his pocket and made a 3- to 4-inch scratch on the woman's car, a police booking affidavit states.

A witness was able to get a license plate number and police later found the man at his house and arrested him.

Sandy Police Sgt. Greg Moffitt says the incident is another reminder for drivers to keep their cool if another motorist is not driving the way they want them to. He noted another road rage case in October when a man was shot and killed in Sandy.

"You may get upset with someone for not using their signal when switching lanes," Moffitt said. "The best thing to do is sit back and take deep breaths. Control what you can control: your driving habits, your temper."
