COALVILLE — A fisherman fell in the water at Echo Reservoir at Echo State Park Saturday and has been transported in critical condition to a hospital for care.
"Even as air temperatures rise, the water remains cold and can quickly lead to hypothermia. Always wear a life jacket and use extreme caution, especially this time of year," North Summit Fire Battalion Chief Tyler Rowser said in a Facebook post. The reservoir sits near Coalville.
First responders were called to the scene around 9 a.m. Saturday in response to reports of the man's fall into the water. Bystanders pulled the man out before the emergency crews arrived, the fire district said. He was subsequently transported in critical condition by a medical helicopter to a Salt Lake Valley hospital for care.
Though spring has arrived, water remains "dangerously cold," the fire district said. The officials thanked the bystanders for their efforts.
The Summit County Sheriff's Office and Utah Highway Patrol also responded to the incident, among others.
