SPRING CITY, Utah (AP) -- A convicted murderer who once was within hours of being executed by a firing squad died 10 months after he was released from prison.
Officials say 59-year-old Craig Marvel died last week at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo.
Marvel's wife says he had cancer and cirrhosis. He and two other men were convicted of killing a rival motorcycle gang member in 1975.
Marvel and the others were sentenced to death. But judges intervened before Marvel's scheduled execution.
The death sentences were commuted after a judge in 1980 said trial prosecutors did not share evidence.
Marvel was released on parole last March.
