FARMINGTON, Utah — After 129 years of business, Lagoon has become a staple for entertainment in Utah and was recently named the 2015 Park of the Year.
The annual "Amusement Today" Golden Ticket Awards Ceremony was held Sept. 12 at Luna Park in Coney Island, New York, where amusement parks across the U.S. were awarded for being outstanding in different categories.
Lagoon was awarded the Park of the Year "for demonstrating commitment to one of America's oldest amusement parks by always improving the park and preserving a piece of Utah's history," according to "Amusement Today."
Lagoon opened in Farmington in 1886 and is one of the largest family-owned amusement parks in the U.S., according to Lagoon spokesman Adam Leishman. In July, the park opened its newest ride, Cannibal, which features a 116-degree beyond vertical free fall and a 140-foot tall inverted loop.
Frightmares opened Friday, transforming the 55 rides at the park into Halloween-themed attractions. Frightmares will run until Oct. 31.
