WEST JORDAN -- A routine commute was anything but for one man in West Jordan this morning.

Jerome Perez said, "I was driving to work this morning when I saw fire coming out of the back of the house and grabbed my cell phone and called the cops."

The fire was reported near 7900 South and 3600 West around 6:30 a.m.

When fire crews arrived on the scene, they quickly knocked down the flames and began searching inside the home to make sure no one was there.

The fire was contained to the basement, but the upper floor is also considered unsafe.

The owners of the home are being located. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
