Sandra Yi ReportingEight people have been arrested after a big drug bust in St. George. It happened last night.
It was part of a four-month investigation that ended with the arrest of several suspected drug dealers. Eight people were taken to jail on drugs and weapons charges. Most of them have immigration holds. Authorities say the suspects are illegal immigrants who crossed the border to sell drugs.
Yesterday authorities served six search warrants. The investigation centered around homes in a mobile home park in St. George. Drug agents seized a pound and a half of marijuana, nearly a pound of methamphetamine and about seven ounces of cocaine, all totaling a street value of more than 60 thousand dollars.
The suspects had hid some of the drugs in cereal boxes and frozen food boxes in the freezer. Authorities also seized cash, a car and three firearms.
Several agencies, including the Washington County Drug/Gang Task Force, St. George Police and SWAT teams were involved in yesterday's bust. State child welfare workers also responded to help with children in some of the homes, but none were removed from any of those homes.
No one was hurt in the raids, but one female suspect suffered health problems. She was treated at the hospital and then booked into jail
