SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A deal to preserve 5.5 acres of open space in Salt Lake City has been finalized.
City leaders and environmentalists call the Wasatch Hollow Natural Open Space area one of the largest underdeveloped natural open spaces in the metropolitan area.
City Councilman JT Martin says the preservation is a chance to save the last open space in his district and clean up the secluded area that has been littered with trash.
The area will remain off-limits to the public until it has been cleaned up and it's decided how the land should be used.
Salt Lake City will hold the fee title to the land and Salt Lake County will hold a conservation easement.
