UTAH COUNTY — Ironically, today's fire comes on the same day that the forest service "lifted" fire restrictions. This new fire broke out in American Fork Canyon and called for evacuation of a few campgrounds, but has now been completely contained.
A hiker near the mouth of Timpanogos Cave first saw the fire. It started close to a road near Silver Lake Flat reservoir.
Several fire crews including two helicopters and six fire engines completely contained the fire, keeping it to only burning three acres of grass and brush.
But Jason Curry from the Utah Department of Natural Resources says that fires are still a threat. "Things are still pretty volatile," Curry said. "It's pretty easy to get a fire to start. On a daily basis we're dealing with fire starts."
