SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Joel Briscoe has been sworn in as a Utah representative.
Briscoe was sworn in Wednesday to fill out the remainder of former Salt Lake City Rep. Christine Johnson's term.
Johnson resigned to become the executive director of a gay rights group in South Carolina.
Briscoe was the only person to submit his name to Democratic delegates for consideration. He also won the Democratic primary to run for the seat in November. He will face Republican Rick Raile.
The district represents the northeast corner of Salt Lake City and parts of Summit County.
