LEHI — The Utah team behind the award-winning Day One app is finding success again.

For the past two years, Bloom Built has been working on a new version of its popular journaling app, which won a coveted Apple Design Award in 2014. In the first few weeks since Day One 2.0's Feb. 4 release, creator Paul Mayne said the app has already been downloaded more than 125,000 times.

The new Day One was also selected as an "editor's choice" in both the iOS and Mac app stores, remaining in the top two spots for highest-grossing paid Mac apps for more than two weeks, according to Mayne.

"It's always great to get recognition from Apple," he said.

While Day One 2.0 shares many similarities with the original app, the Bloom Built team created the updated version from scratch. It is a separate app from its predecessor, which was renamed Day One Classic.

The new Day One offers the ability to add multiple inline photos to journal entries. Mayne said increased photo capability was the most requested update from users. The development he is most excited about is the potential to use Day One 2.0 to create multiple journals.

"It makes it more than just a personal journal," he said. "It becomes more of a tool that you can use in your life to keep track of (things like) meeting notes, or a hobby or whatever you're interested in. You can keep a separate journal for each of those."

The new app also sync's to Day One's syncing platform and the team is working on improved security features. True private key encryption should be available in May, according to Mayne. After that, they plan to work on a web-based app and an Android version.

Bloom Built has steadily grown since Day One launched in March 2011. Mayne said the company is still completely self-owned, with a team of 12 engineers and customer support representatives.

"I bootstrapped the company to start, and it has remained profitable the entire time," he said.
