SALT LAKE CITY -- Even if you've never heard of Adele, chances are you've heard her music. She's quickly becoming one of the most popular artists on the music scene today and now her old flame thinks he deserves some of the credit.

The success of Adele's chart-topping album ‘21', which contains the hit songs, "Turning Tables" and "Rolling in the Deep", has sparked renewed interest in her debut album, ‘19' which has the song "Chasing Pavement".

Adele's ex says he deserves royalties

Now that ‘19' is experiencing unexpected success her ex-boyfriend, who inspired much of the album, feels he should get some of the credit and profits.

Adele told "The Sun" her ex was calling her for a week and was "deadly" serious about receiving royalties. "Finally I said, ‘Well, you made my life hell, so I lived it and now I deserve it.'"

MSN.com wrote that, "The singer (Adele) poured her emotions into her music after splitting from her unnamed partner and the melancholy record has sold millions of copies around the world since hitting shelves earlier this year."

Well, you made my life hell, so I lived it and now I deserve it.

–- Adele, speaking to 'The Sun" about her ex-boyfriend asking for royalties

That being said, it doesn't mean that the singer/songwriter was OK with the inquiry from her former beau.

According to NWE.com she's "furious that her former partner is trying to claim credit for her initial success as well as a cut of the royalties."

While Adele deals with an ex who just won't go away, I don't think it will affect her too much when she comes to Salt Lake later this month for her much anticipated concert. If you'd like to see her perform I hope you already have tickets. They went on sale in February and it didn't take long for them to sell out.

If you're dying to see the soulful singer maybe you can find someone willing to sell their tickets… Maybe on ksl Classifieds (shameless plug).

The show will be on May 29th at 8 pm at The Depot in downtown Salt Lake City.
