SOUTH SALT LAKE — Police are searching for a masked gunman who robbed a convenience store early this morning but didn't get away with much money.
The armed robbery happened around 1 a.m. at the 7-Eleven near 2700 South and 420 East. The clerk was behind the counter when the robber, dressed in a black hoodie, sunglasses and blue bandana around his face came in with a handgun. Police say the robber threatened the clerk with the gun and demanded money from her.
Sgt. Anderson with the South Salt Lake Police Department said, "She quickly handed over some small bills and he just got a couple ones and fives, that was about it."
With the money in hand, the robber fled the store. He was last seen headed south. Police dogs from Salt Lake City police, Unified police, and West Jordan police tried to track him but they lost his scent and the search was called off.
Police are now hoping surveillance video from the store will help identify a suspect.
"We did get good video of it, and that should help us in the investigation," Sgt. Anderson said.
The clerk wasn't injured. She said this is the second time she has been robbed, and the third time this particular store has been hit in the past several months.
