KEARNS — One man was arrested and two were hospitalized after a minivan drove into a house garage, almost hitting three police officers, Saturday morning.

Three Unified police officers were wrapping up a call at 4320 W. 5215 South in Kearns at 12:11 a.m., Saturday, when a minivan drove through a nearby T-intersection and up the driveway, narrowly avoiding the officers, according to Unified Police Lt. Brian Lohrke. The minivan then crashed into a chain link fence and hit the garage of the house.

Lohrke said that the top rail of the fence came through the vehicle and “through the pants the driver had on" but did not hit the driver's body. The driver, Morris Marquez, sustained minor injuries and was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The front passenger was pinned and had to be extricated by Utah Fire Authority Heavy Rescue, Lohrke said. He was in critical condition and transported to Intermountain Medical Center.

The third passenger was in fair condition, Lohrke said, and was taken by family to an area hospital.

Police did not know the ages of those in the vehicle.

No one in the house was injured.
