WASHINGTON (AP) — The board of directors of NPR has selected the chairman of Southern California Public Radio to be its next president and CEO.
The board announced Friday that Jarl (Yarl) Mohn will start in July. Mohn says he considers the new position a mission, not a job. He succeeds Paul Haaga Jr., who has served on an interim basis since last year.
The Sixty-two-year-old Mohn served as founding president and chief executive officer of Liberty Digital and president and chief executive officer of E! Entertainment Television. He was also executive vice president and general manager of MTV and VH1.
Board chair Kit Jensen says Mohn has a keen ability to identify media and consumer trends and has a strong track record on diversity and fairness.
