METAIRIE, La. (AP) — LAMMICO, the state's largest medical malpractice insurer, says it will return $2.6 million, or 5 percent of premiums, to more than 6,700 policyholders in a dozen states.
The Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/1EcZQvG ) close to 6,400 of those policyholders, or 94.8 percent, are in Louisiana.
Policyholders will receive the refund during the first quarter. This marks the eighth time the company has made a dividend payment since 2008. In that time, LAMMICO has returned $45 million, including the current dividend, to policyholders.
The Metairie-based, physician-owned company specializes in medical liability insurance and products for Louisiana physicians.
