SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Howling winds have halted flights at Salt Lake City's airport and toppled semitrailers on Interstate 80, causing authorities to close a 100-mile stretch of northern Utah's main east-west highway. A spokesman with the Utah Highway Patrol says at least three semitrailers rolled on I-80, causing one death. With visibility practically zero, other cars crashed into the wrecked semis.
PROVO, Utah (AP) — Police in Provo say a 53-year-old woman has died after she was struck by a commuter rail train early this morning between Orem and Provo. Provo police tell The Salt Lake Tribune that officials are still investigating what happened on the FrontRunner tracks. Authorities have not released the woman's identity because they're still working to notify her family.
PARK CITY, Utah (AP) — A Utah ski instructor has died after crashing into a pole. Park City police said 42-year-old Rafal Uzieblo was in the Deer Valley Resort skiing when he crashed into a lift tower pole. He was pronounced dead near the Sterling Express Chairlift on the Bird's Eye ski run of Bald Mountain. Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Former Utah Gov. Norman Bangerter has suffered a stroke. A family spokesman says the 82-year-old Bangerter had the stroke this morning. He is receiving medical attention. Bangerter became the state's 13th governor when he was elected in 1984. He was the first Republican governor elected in 20 years in Utah.
