SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah's prison director says he'll fire someone if needed after he investigates the death of an inmate who went without dialysis for two days when providers failed to show up for treatment. The executive director of Utah's Department of Corrections says the prison has Spanish-speaking staff, but he doesn't know if any were on hand when 62-year-old Ramon Estrada didn't get dialysis treatment. Estrada was from Mexico and relied on translators.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah judge has rejected a potential class-action lawsuit seeking millions in damages for hundreds people arrested for drunken driving by disgraced former state trooper Lisa Steed. The judge ruled that the stops were all different, so they have to be considered individually.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A plea deal for a former TV pitchman in Utah accused of kicking a barn owl in flight while riding a motorized paraglider fell through when he refused to admit to the crime. Dell Schanze told the judge he would plead guilty but said wouldn't lie and accept that he knowingly kicked an owl, which would make him look like an evil and horrible person. The judge said he couldn't accept the deal without admission of the facts.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A U.S. Airways flight from Phoenix to Vancouver landed at Salt Lake City International Airport after the crew was alerted to a possible problem with the hydraulic system. A spokeswoman for American Airlines, which owns U.S. Airways, says the 130 passengers and five crew members aboard flight 504 were unharmed.
