SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) — San Bernardino County will hire temporary workers to fill in for environmental health employees on leave since December's terror attack.
The Sun reports Wednesday (http://bit.ly/1VExAsU ) that the county Board of Supervisors voted to hire as many as 30 temporary workers for up to a year.
The county says many environmental health workers were victims or co-workers of a victim of the Dec. 2 shooting rampage by husband-and-wife assailants at a luncheon for environmental health employees.
Fourteen people were killed and 22 wounded in the attack.
Until now, the county has relied on assistance from environmental health workers from nearby agencies to cover for those on leave.
Hiring the temporary workers could cost up to $1.5 million.
