(KSL News) A Kaysville educator gets a High 5 today for being an example of perseverance and optimism.

Despite facing personal challenges most of us can't imagine, the principal of Creekside Elementary School continues to focus on her students.

Principal Vickie Jessen has a daughter who was diagnosed with cancer. She also has a grandchild who's been diagnosed with a terminal illness. But she doesn't let that affect her work and handles her personal challenges with unwavering optimism.

This morning she got a High 5 from what seemed like her entire school.

Brent Severe, nominated co-worker: "Vickie, on behalf of the Creekside PTA, the community council, parents, faculty and community, we want you to know how much you are loved and appreciated. In our eyes you're our hero. If anyone deserves a High 5, it's you."

Vickie Jessen, principal of Creekside Elementary: "Thank you so much. You're my favorite people.

"I do love what I do. How could I not? All these awesome kids and the people I work with. How could I not? I love my work. I love my work!"

Our Coco Warner says this was a really fun High 5. Even the school's mascot came out to honor Principal Jessen.

If there is someone you'd like to nominate for a High 5 follow the link above.
