SALT LAKE CITY -- The Legislature celebrated the "Statue of Responsibility" Friday. It's a monument that could be a West Coast compliment to the Statue of Liberty.
As part of the celebration, the House passed a resolution to support a foundation that's raising money for the monument.
The idea is that the monument -- two hands clasped -- will be placed on the West Cost as a compliment to the East Coast's Statue of Liberty.
The monument advances the idea that responsibility and liberty equal freedom. Both the artist, Gary Lee Price, and the organization funding the project are based in Utah.
"Utah will forever be the birthplace of the Statue of Responsibility, which is a cool moniker for us to have here," says Rep. Mike Morely, R-Spanish Fork.
The Statue of Responsibility Foundation is raising money for the monument. They estimate a cost of $300 million dollars. A specific site has not been picked yet.
