SALT LAKE CITY -- The Red Cross honored some real local heroes Wednesday.
Among the people receiving highest honors was Sgt. 1st Class Brady Johnson.
Johnson used his military medic skills to rescue cyclist Dave Collins in American Fork last summer.
Collins had crashed into an SUV during a charity bike race. Moments later Johnson and his family came across the scene.
Johnson saw the chaos and jumped out of his car to help.
Johnson said, "I've been trained by the military to be a medic, so if something happens where I can use those skills, it would be a shame if I didn't."
Johnson's actions are credited with saving Collins' life.
Wednesday, Collins was at the event to help award Johnson with the Red Cross Military Hero Award.
