SANDY -- A growing clothing company in Sandy was hit by fire in November. Now it is finally climbing back.
Early in the morning of Nov. 12, a fire broke out at the retail store and warehouse of Layers Clothing. COO Cherilyn Miller says it was devastating, but in the months since the company is finding out it was a good thing.
"It's definitely a tragedy when fire hits, but it has given us a ton of room to reinvent, so we are excited about what is up and coming," she said.
Miller says investigators believed the fire had something to do with roofing work being done.
She says people have wondered what happened to Layers, asking if it is going out of business. Miller says it definitely is not. It recently had its first warehouse sale since the fire at a rented location and saw long lines.
"It's good to know that people love our product and are waiting for us," Miller said.
She says the company will be fully back at the end of spring or early summer with a new line of clothing and a new resolve to keep going.
Layers Clothing started selling out of people's houses at parties and with distributors. Within five years it had grown enough to have a retail store in Sandy connected to its warehouse. Now Miller says company leaders are trying to work out whether they will go back to that location at 9100 South and 500 West or find another building. They are still working with their insurance companies on the details.
